Mr Bobby Shabangu

Bobby Shabangu is a South African open knowledge advocate, researcher, and community leader whose work focuses on making knowledge more inclusive, accessible, and representative of diverse voices. He has been deeply involved in the Wikimedia movement, both locally and globally, where he champions the use of African languages online and the growth of African content on platforms such as Wikipedia. Through his leadership with Wikimedia South Africa and the WikiIndaba Conference, Bobby has trained students, academics, and communities across Africa and the Global South in contributing to Wikipedia as a source of local knowledge. His work also explores the intersection of open knowledge, technology, and society'touching on themes such as AI, open data, copyleft laws, and disinformation.
